Oracle Database Security Audit Training Courses in York May 2016 [ 3 Days ]

York City Walls

Pete Finnigan is going to teach three exciting days of training covering many aspects of Oracle Security. The three days of Oracle security training is a special combination of our two day class - How to Perform a Security Audit of an Oracle Database - class and the single day - Secure and Lock Down Oracle - class. The combination of these two classes is very popular for private classes and we want to now offer this as a public class in Pete Finnigan's home city of York, England.

In the first two day class we start with looking at why data can be insecure and how this is affected by the way the database works itself, how we as customers of Oracle make data insecure in our designs, methods and processed used and then how hackers can attack and steal data. We go on to plan a security audit and then walk through a complete sample security audit and then place the results into the context of securing all of the data held and processed by the customer

In the second one day class we explore securing and locking down a sample Oracle database hosting two applications; a front facing website for a mythical company and a back office system used to process customers, orders, employees, payment card details and much more. These applications are explored in terms of how are they insecure, can we hack them, can we steal data from the back office application whilst simply connected to the company website. Can a developer, admin or DBA steal data whilst connected internally to the database.

“It really was an excellent course that crammed a lot into two days, delivering a good understanding of the fundamental security risks and flaws around the data in an Oracle database and providing the knowledge and skills required to carry out a database security audit from first principals”

-- M.C, Information security and assurance provider, UK

What do we need to do to secure the data and the database? We demonstrate in depth actually locking down and hardening this database including using a simple free database security auditing tool and also lots of techniques and simple tools to decide how to protect and limit access to the data. We explore server clean up and hardening, network lock down, database hardening and lock down as well as suitable database user design for end users, admin and DBA as well as password controls and also context based security around access to the data. We complete the day by re-hacking our database from the context of an unauthenticated web user, an authenticated web user, database users and also DBA and show that we can now no longer steal or read data from the database unless we are supposed to do so.

As part of the lock down as also include installation of a simple (many thousands of lines of PL/SQL) free Audit Trail toolkit and configuration via policies to show that not only is the database now locked down; we can also detect abuse and un-authenticated access to data or resources.

The classes are interspersed by lots of real life experience in the area of Oracle security by one of the few people who performs detailed security audits of Oracle databases worldwide. Lots of anecdotes, wisdom and real life!
